Batch Traceability for Manufacturers
Easily manage batch traceability with QuickWorks using built‑in material traceability and Shopfloor Data Capture (SFDC). Track exactly which materials were used, who supplied them, and every operation performed - and by whom. Generate accurate Certificates of Conformity (CofCs) at the touch of a button, with confidence that they’re correct and fully aligned with your quality system. Replace manual, error‑prone paperwork with real‑time digital audit trails for both materials and operations, and keep your compliance process running smoothly.

Automate the tracking of materials and operations
Batch traceability key features
- Automated Certificates of Conformity
- Easy quality system compliance
- Easily Identify and isolate non-conforming parts, up and down the supply chain
- Enhances customer trust and confidence
- Enables FIFO (First in - First out) control of materials and shelf-life management
- Real time digital audit trails for materials and operations, eliminating manual error-prone paperwork
What is Batch Traceability?
Batch traceability is the ability to track and trace every material, component, assembly, process, operation and person involved in producing a specific batch or job. In manufacturing, especially for SMEs, it ensures you know:
- Which materials were used and who supplied
- Which processes were used and which operations were performed
- Which operators worked on operation
- When each step happened
This creates a fully traceable record that supports quality compliance, customer assurance and root‑cause analysis.
Why does Batch Traceability Matter?
Batch traceability allows businesses to track and record the movement of goods (raw materials, components and assemblies from the bottom of the supply chain through to the customer and every stage in between, thus ensuring quality, compliance, and control. By assigning a unique identifier to a specific group of items (a batch or lot), companies can rapidly identify, isolate, and manage issues, which minimises financial loss and enables effective corrective actions.
Which industries require Batch Traceability?
In some industries, it is mandatory for suppliers to have batch traceability, in order to comply with their standards. Please see the table below indicating which industries require quality management system compliance, including Batch Traceability, and some of the key certificates. Please note that it is possible to store these certificates in QuickWorks.

What is Batch Traceability Software?
Batch Traceability Software automates the tracking of materials and operations within the business. It does this in two ways, using a Unique Numbering System (UNS) for materials and Shop Floor Data Capture (SFDC) for operations. The UNS allocates a unique number to each batch of raw materials, components and assemblies. The SFDC system captures, in real time, when operations were finished and who completed them. The key differences between manual systems and software solutions are:
- Manual systems require far more time to record and action the data (e.g. create certificates of conformity, access records when there is an issue, etc)
- Software solutions provide up to the minute live data, so repsonese to issues can be instantaneous.
What is the best Batch Traceability software for my business?
The most appropriate Batch Traceability software for your business is the software that best accommodates the characteristics and dynamics of your business.
There is a trade-off between complexity and time spent managing a system. For example, if you are a large manufacturer with relatively stable demands, you may need a system to be highly complex to meet the specific needs of your business. On the other hand, if your business has ever-changing demands and priorities, complex systems can add a lot of work and very little value, which is often the case for smaller manufacturers. Consequently, if you are a small manufacturer, flexible, easy to use batch traceability software may be the answer.
How can QuickWorks help you improve your throughput and delivery performance?
QuickWorks has been designed specifically to help manufacturing SMEs (small and medium sized enterprises) to grow. Consequently, if you are a manufacturing SME, QuickWorks will help you to reduce your lead-times and improve your delivery performance, by giving you total visibility of all your jobs in real time.
At the high level, the live dashboard will enable you to see which jobs need to be raised, which need to be picked, which are in production, which are overdue and which are complete.
At the operational level, the Job Boards will give you visibility throughout the factory (including the offices) of the status of every job, while the Shop Floor Data Capture module captures activities in a live environment. Together, they keep the jobs moving, by providing everyone with the information in a timely fashion to unblock the day-to-day issues. By responding to issues early and communicating them instantly, there is a positive impact on both throughput and delivery performance.

What people say about QuickWorks
"In 6 years, H2M has grown from 12 to 35 staff and now operate across two sites, manufacturing hard to make components. QuickWorks has helped us reduce errors, improve delivery performance and made it easy to communicate changes"
- Garry Calcott, H2M Engineering Ltd

Why has QuickWorks been developed?
QuickWorks has been developed by individuals who have over 30 years of experience working with small manufacturing businesses

"Without an effective manufacturing system many small businesses struggle to grow, as they find it impossible to migrate away from micro-management. Therefore, it is essential the system is not only easy to adopt, it must enable them to transfer task ownership and decision making."
- Tony Prouse, Co-Founder
