QuickWorks helps Mulraney Components achieve ISO9001 and double turnover

Mulraney Components, a precision engineering company famous for its Oddie®  fasteners, achieves ISO9001 accreditation and sees turnover more than double in two years, with the help of QuickWorks manufacturing control software.

Founded in 2022, Mulraney offer a host of in-house manufacturing processes, ranging from CNC turning and milling through to laser cutting, jig manufacture, fabrication and assembly. The business also produces aluminium extrusions, seamless drawn aluminium tubing and boasts a number of finishing processes including anodising, zinc plating and powder coating. In short, Mulraney has rapidly established itself as a genuine one‑stop shop for specialist components.

Since its formation, the business has doubled its staff, invested in 2 new turning centres and obtained ISO 9001 registration - a real good news story for UK manufacturing.

The Barriers to Growth

Like many start-ups, Mulraney initially relied on spreadsheets to run the business. It quickly became clear that this approach was unsustainable. The sheer number of spreadsheets made them difficult to maintain and slowed down everyday tasks such as quoting, purchasing and monitoring production - particularly when trying to track the status of materials and jobs. Stock accuracy was questionable and there was no traceability. Files could only be accessed by one user at a time, and visibility across the team was limited and data errors were common.

The team also recognised that achieving quality system accreditation would be almost impossible with a spreadsheet‑based setup. Yet, their past experience with traditional MRP systems made them cautious - many were overly complex, admin‑heavy and costly to run.

Mulraney needed a system that was simple to adopt, easy to use and affordable.

Adopting QuickWorks

After discovering QuickWorks in the autumn of 2022, Mulraney were impressed by how simple and intuitive it was compared with the traditional MRP systems they had used before. They implemented the system in November and were fully operational within a month, quickly adopting core features such as traceability, NCR management, document control and certificates of conformity, which in turn helped them achieve ISO 9001 accreditation within just seven months.

The company has since gone on to secure ISO14001 for Environmental Management and ISO45001 for Health & Safety Management, all while continuing to grow.

“QuickWorks has enabled me to get jobs quoted faster, to know exactly where we are with every job and saved the business countless man-hours. Furthermore, if we did not have QuickWorks in place, we could not have achieved accreditation for ISO9001/14001 & 45001” - Peter Mulraney, Owner
